Bangkok: Human rights and sex worker advocacy organizations in Thailand have escalated calls for the enactment of the progressive Sex Work Protection Bill. Members of the Empower Foundation staged rallies outside Government House, petitioning Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul to ratify the legislation without delay.
The proposed legislation seeks to repeal the outdated 1996 Prostitution Prevention and Suppression Act, officially decriminalizing voluntary adult sex work and classifying sex workers as recognized legal laborers entitled to statutory labor rights, health insurance, and workplace protections.
