IPL 2026 Qualifier 1: RCB Faces Gujarat Titans Amid Phil Salt vs Venkatesh Iyer Debate
As RCB gears up to face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2026, Simon Doull insists RCB must stick with in-form Venkatesh Iyer over returning Phil Salt.
Ahmedabad: Ahead of the IPL 2026 Qualifier 1 clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans, cricket analyst Simon Doull argued that RCB should retain Venkatesh Iyer as Virat Kohli's opening partner.
"Phil Salt has been out for three and a half weeks with a finger injury. Coming back into high-pressure knockout cricket after an extended break is never straightforward," Doull stated. "In playoff cricket, current form trumps legacy."
Venkatesh has notched 158 runs at an average of 79.00 and strike rate of 177.52 in 5 games this season, making a compelling case for the crucial playoff opener.
